Abstract

This review aims at the presentation of a coherent overview of hydrogen technologies and identifies areas where the authors expect the greatest progress.

Microcogeneration units with fuel cells produce heat and electricity for residential buildings and smaller commercial buildings. Cogeneration units with power output over 50 kW often serve as a back-up power source. Hydrogen can be used to create low emission alternatives to fossil fuels. It is evident that hydrogen technologies offer a large variety of possible uses. The fuel-cell energy can be used to propel various vehicles; hydrogen can be utilized in a variety of industrial applications as well.
